Salvation Benefits in the Book of Hebrews

Forgiveness of Sins

Purification of sins (1:3)

Paid by blood of Christ (9:11-14)

Christ died as a ransom to set them free from sins (9:15)

Christ appeared once for all to do away with sin by his blood (9:27-28)

Cleansed from guilty conscience by Jesus’ blood (10:22)

Life after Death

Deliverance from Fear of Death (2:15)

Promise of entering his rest (chapter 4)

Promise of eternal inheritance (9:15)

City and country in heaven, not man-made (11:16; 13:14)

Moses rejected Egypt’s treasures, looking for his eternal reward (11:26)

Reconciliation with God

Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence so that we may receive mercy (4:16)

We have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by Jesus’ blood (19:19-22)

We have the right to eat from heavenly tabernacle (13:10)

God’s Help

Angels are ministering spirits (1:14)

God helps not angels, but Abraham’s descendants (2:16)

We approach the throne so we may receive grace & mercy in our time of need

Christ meets our needs (7:26)

Sanctification

Christ makes men holy (2:11; 13:12)

Blood of the eternal covenant sanctifies (10:29)

God equips with everything good for doing his will, and works in us what is pleasing to him (13:21)

Children of God, Brothers and Sisters of Christ

Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers (2:11-13)

God disciplines his children (12:5-11)

High Priest

Jesus was made like his brothers to be merciful & faithful high priest (2:17)

High Priest who has gone through the heavens (4:14)

Able to deal gently with those going astray (5:2)

Ministers in heavenly tabernacle, in Holy of Holies (6:19-20; 9:1-10, 23-28)

Melchizedekan Priesthood

Greater than Abraham

Not based on genealogical descent but on Christ’s indestructible life and God’s appointment (chap 7)

One sacrifice once for all (chap 10)

Not repetitious

Christ made the offering, then sat down at God’s right hand (1:3)

 Partakers of Christ, Holy Spirit

If we hold firmly till the end (3:14)

Sharing in of Holy Spirit (6:4)

Covenant Promises

Still valid for God’s people—by God’s oath (6:13-20)

He who promised is faithful (10:23)

Reigning in God’s Kingdom

World to be made subject to man—Christ’s brothers & sisters (2:5-9)

Heb 12:22-24

You have come to Mt. Zion, heavenly Jerusalem, city of living God, myriads of angels in joyful assembly, God’s church, to God the perfector of righteous men, to sprinkled blood of Christ

Heb 6:4-6

Enlightened, tasted of heavenly gift, shared in Holy Spirit, tasted goodness of the word of God, tasted in (goodness of) powers of the coming age’
